President's son dies in cliff plunge

The son of Albanian President Alfred Moisiu was killed when his 4X4 vehicle plunged off a cliff into a river today.

Admir Moisiu, 32, was in the Prosecutor General’s vehicle when it skidded off a cliff into the Drino River 125 miles south of Tirana.

“His body was found a few metres from where the vehicle crashed,” police spokesman Florian Serjani said.

Earlier, the car and one slightly injured person were discovered, while the two other passengers – Moisiu and the driver – were missing.

A special police force, divers and medical teams had been sent to the area. Nato helicopter crews checked along the river.

The injured survivor, Rahman Jata, said the car skidded off the cliff even though they were not driving fast. He said he was sitting in the back, while Moisiu and the driver where in the front of the vehicle which submerged under water.

“Some people broke the rear glass of the car and took me out,” Jata said.

Moisiu, who is married, worked at the Prosecutor General’s office and was on an assignment when the car crashed.
