Europeans want tighter border controls

Most Europeans want a tightening of passport and other entry controls for foreigners as part of an EU asylum and immigration policy, a poll revealed today.

The EC-commissioned poll, which was carried out by Eurobarometer, found that a strong majority favour bolstering border checks to prevent the flow of illegal immigrants into the EU.
