Two killed in Iraqi car bomb attacks

Two Iraqi civilians were killed when insurgents attacked a Polish army camp in Iraq with car bombs today.

Eight soldiers were injured, including six Poles, a Hungarian and an American.

The attack happened in the early morning when two cars apparently tried to drive into the front of Camp Babylon and one of them detonated a bomb, a Polish army officer in Hillah, 60 miles south of Baghdad, said.

A second car was stopped before its bomb could be detonated.

Two Iraqi civilians were killed in the attack, the military said. None of the injured soldiers' wounds were considered life threatening.

A Polish officer was killed in November 2003, the first Polish soldier killed in combat since the aftermath of the Second World War.

Poland leads a multinational force of about 9,500 soldiers in south-central Iraq. Hungary has 300 troops in Iraq providing logistical support and humanitarian aid.
