German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac are committed to securing a new EU constitution but made it clear today they would not back down on their demands for a new voting system.

After talks with Chirac near Berlin, Schroeder was meeting Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to explain the Franco-German position.
