Bodies recovered from capsized freighter
Divers recovered the bodies of two victims trapped on board a freighter that capsized in a Norwegian inlet more than two weeks ago. Eleven of the 18 dead were still missing.
The 544 foot freighter Rocknes, with a mainly Filipino crew of 30, abruptly capsized after running aground near the port of Bergen.
Last week it was towed to a base near Bergen so divers could search the overturned wreck for victims.
Police spokesman Trygve Hillestad said the bodies were found on an interior deck just below the ship’s bridge.
He said the search, which began yesterday, would continue at a cautious pace.
The ship was bound for Germany with a load of stone when it ran aground and tore open ballast tanks designed to help keep it upright.
