Israeli troops raid Jericho

Israeli troops on jeeps and a tank raided Jericho today for the first time in months in an apparent search for fugitives.

Entering the town at the start of the four-day Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, gunfire echoed through the town, forcing residents to remain in their homes instead of going to prayer services in the mosque and to conduct a traditional slaughtering of lambs.
