Tourists escape bus blaze
A bus carrying 37 tourists to the Courchevel ski resort caught fire inside an Alpine tunnel today, authorities said.
No one was injured.
The fire started as the bus drove through the Dullin tunnel in France’s eastern Savoie region, said an official from the National Centre for Road Information.
French authorities said the fire appeared to start in the engine of the bus.
With just over a mile left before the exit, the bus driver raced through the tunnel and safely evacuated passengers once outside, the official said.
Flames destroyed the bus before the fire could be extinguished, burning all the passengers’ belongings.
Another bus was dispatched to drive the tourists to Courchevel.
