'Lady in the lake' husband gets bail

A man accused of murdering his wife almost 28 years ago was granted bail by magistrates today.

Gordon Park, 59, is accused of murdering his teacher wife Carol in July 1976.

Her body was discovered by amateur divers in Coniston Water in the Lake District in 1997.

Park, a retired primary school teacher, appeared before Barrow-in-Furness Magistrates’ Court today charged with murder.

Dressed in a black polo-neck grey sweater and burgundy jacket, balding and bespectacled Park did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name and address.

He will appear before Preston Crown Court on February 11.
