US soldier dies in roadside bomb attack

An American soldier was killed and two were wounded in a Baghdad roadside bombing today, US command said.

It was the first reported combat death among US troops in Iraq since Friday when nine soldiers were killed when a medevac helicopter was shot down near Fallujah.

The latest casualties were from the 1st Armored Division, the command said.

American officials say there have been an average of 17 attacks a day against US troops in the past week, down from more than 30 before Saddam Hussein was captured last month.
