Black Hawk crash kills eight in Iraq

All eight people on board a US Black Hawk helicopter in Iraq were killed today when, said a military spokeswoman, it made “an emergency landing.”

At least four of the victims were soldiers, she said.

The helicopter went down near Fallujah, the spokeswoman said. The area, west of Baghdad, is a hotbed of the insurgency against the US occupation.

The reason for the emergency was not immediately clear.

Anti-American insurgents have made several attacks on aircraft in Iraq.
