Three years for thief who stole wedding gifts
A burglar who stole a couple’s wedding presents while they were on honeymoon was jailed today in the UK.
Robert Vipond was sent to prison for three years at Exeter Crown Court by Judge Jeremy Griggs, who told him he had committed a “particularly mean offence.”
The 21-year-old raided the Exeter, Devon. Home of newlyweds Keith and Sue King while they were on honeymoon in Minorca.
Vipond got away with property valued at £3,785 (€5,374) as well as £500 (€709) worth of vouchers and £175 (€248) given to the newlyweds as presents.
Mrs King said after the raid in September that she was “gutted” by what had happened.
“That burglar does not realise what he has put us through,” she said, adding that she now felt “insecure” in her home.
“When I found out about the wedding money and vouchers I cried,” she said.
Vipond, of Kestor Drive, Exwick, Exeter, appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to offences of burglary and of possession heroin, with six offences taken into consideration.
