Calls made for quicker Milosevic trial

The UN war crimes tribunal has been told to speed up the trial of Slobodan Milosevic.

Lord David Owen – a key figure in attempts to end the Balkan wars – said the tribunal, which has gone on for nearly two years, was hampering reconciliation efforts.

Lord Owen – who was the EU’s special negotiator on Yugoslavia from 1992-95 and has given evidence at Milosevic’s trial – said similar actions across the former Yugoslavia were feeding nationalism.
