Carr was Huntley alibi for rape accusation

Maxine Carr provided an alibi for Ian Huntley when he was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl, police revealed today.

Huntley was today jailed for life for the brutal murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

Maxine Carr was sentenced to three and a half years for conspiring with Huntley to pervert the course of justice.

Humberside Police revealed they previously had dealt 10 times with Huntley, including four alleged rapes on teenagers, three allegations of having unlawful sex with girls under 16 and an allegation of indecent assault on a 12-year-old girl.

The rape allegation for which Carr provided an alibi was made in July 1999. The alleged victim claims she was raped as she walked home after drinking in a Grimsby nightclub.

Huntley became a suspect because of previous allegations which had been made against him.

Police did not proceed with the case as they could provide no evidence.
