Plane diverts after note threat

A plane bound for London returned to New York’s Kennedy Airport early today after a flight attendant found a threatening note on a seat in the aircraft.

Virgin Atlantic Flight 10 departed from Kennedy Airport at 12.01am Friday (5.01am Irish time) but returned at about 1.30am (6.30am Irish time), according to Darrin Kayser, a spokesman for the federal Transportation Security Administration.

Kayser said he did not have information about the contents of the note or whether any arrests were made. He said the FBI was investigating the incident.

More than 250 passengers aboard the plane were evacuated and re-screened, Kayser said.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, conducted a search of the aircraft using sniffer dogs, according to Port Authority spokesman Tony Ciavolella.
