31 die in Sudanese stampede

Thirty-one people died and 48 were injured in a stampede rushing to receive money and food handouts in the eastern Sudanese town of Port Sudan.

A police statement said a large number of people were gathered in a small alley leading to a company owned by a wealthy family that distributes money and food during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
