Indonesian troops shot and killed six suspected rebels in Aceh province as the military pressed ahead with its offensive despite pleas for a cease-fire during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

The men were killed in separate incidents across the province, said Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Yani Basuki. One AK-47 riffle was confiscated from the dead men, he said.
