Nine children digging for clay to make lamps for a popular Hindu festival were killed when an earthen embankment collapsed and buried them, an Indian government official said.

The nine children were aged between four and 12, said Raja Ram, a local administrator at Firozabad, northern India, where the accident occurred on Friday.
