US soldier killed in Iraq
One soldier attached to the 3rd Armoured Cavalry Regiment was killed and another wounded when a roadside bomb exploded just west of Baghdad, the US military said.
It was the first reported death by hostile fire of an American soldier in Iraq since Friday.
The explosion happened about 9:50 p.m. the U.S. Central Command said in a statement. The wounded soldier was transported to the 28th Combat Support Hospital for treatment.
Names of the victims were withheld pending notification of kin.
The latest death brings to 89 the number of American soldiers killed by hostile fire in Iraq since President George Bush declared an end to major combat operations on May 1.
