The Dutch government said it will push for more European Union decisions to be taken by majority voting when the Netherlands take over the rotating six-month presidency of the EU in July 2004.

The Dutch government said it will push for more European Union decisions to be taken by majority voting when the Netherlands take over the rotating six-month presidency of the EU in July 2004.

"The government wants the central role of the (European) commission enhanced and the process of decision-making by qualified majority widened," Queen Beatrix said in a declaration on behalf of the government of Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.
