Police arrest suspect for Lindh murder
Swedish police have arrested the suspected killer of Foreign Minister Anna Lindh, it was reported in Stockholm today.
Two Swedish newspapers said the man, arrested during a police raid, was “nearly” identical to a man caught on video in a Stockholm store where Lindh was attacked.
Police have not commented on the arrest.
Lindh was stabbed repeatedly last Wednesday in an exclusive Stockholm department store and she died the day following eight hours of surgery.
She was stabbed in the stomach, chest and arm, and police were searching for a man wearing a camouflage jacket who fled the store.
Police said they did not believe the attack was politically motivated but it cast a pall over the country’s referendum to decide whether to adopt the euro.
Sweden voted not to adopt the European currency last Sunday.
