Man in court charged with raping teenager

A man has appeared in court charged with raping a teenage girl he allegedly met through text messaging.

The 15-year-old girl, from Hindley near Wigan, Greater Manchester, UK, said she was attacked after meeting a man she was introduced to by a friend. The friend met the man through an Internet chat service.

Simon McDonald, aged 25, of Leasowe, Wirral, Merseyside, UK, spoke only to confirm his name and address at Wigan Magistrates Court.

He was bailed to appear back at the UK court on Tuesday September 9.
