US soldier killed by Iraqi bomb
An American soldier was killed today when his convoy was hit by a roadside bomb 16 miles north of Baghdad.
Two other soldiers were wounded in the blast in the town of Hamariyah, said Central Command spokesman Major Mike Escudie.
The incident brought the death toll since May 1, to one more than the number of soldiers who died during heavy fighting before that date.
Since the war began on March 20, 277 US forces have died. Since May 1, when President George Bush declared an end to major combat, 66 soldiers have been killed.
