Woman burned when mobile burst into flames

A Dutch woman suffered serious burns when her mobile phone burst into flames as she tried to make a call, police said today.

The woman had dropped the Nokia phone just before the incident in Amsterdam.

“She was treated on site by health workers for facial burns,” said police spokesman Eric Vermeulen.

“I am not a technical expert, but we assume it caught fire due to a short circuit.”

A Nokia official said the fire was caused by the phone battery, which was not manufactured by Nokia.
