Britain's Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon was anxious to make public that David Kelly could be the source of a BBC story claiming the British government "sexed up" its dossier on Iraqi weapons.

Sir Kevin Tebbit, the Permanent Under Secretary at the British Ministry of Defence, told the inquiry into Dr Kelly's death that he was seen as the key to refuting the BBC's allegations.
