A BBC journalist described today how she was pressurised by her managers to identify the British government weapons expert David Kelly as the source of her reports on the government’s Iraqi weapons dossier.

Susan Watts, the science editor of BBC2’s Newsnight, told the inquiry into Dr Kelly’s death that BBC managers had wanted her to back up a report by the Radio 4 Today programme journalist Andrew Gilligan that the government had “sexed up” the dossier.
