Funeral of David Kelly takes place
Lord Hutton – the man who will lead the inquiry into the death of David Kelly - joined mourners today at the UK government weapons inspector’s funeral.
The Law Lord arrived at the private service at St Mary’s Church in Oxfordshire, moments before Britain's Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, who was representing the Government.
They joined other mourners at the 13th century church, which overlooks the spot where Dr Kelly apparently killed himself three weeks ago.
Dr Kelly’s death came after he was named as the source for BBC claims that intelligence on Iraq was “sexed up”.
Up to 160 mourners were expected to join Dr Kelly’s widow Janice, 58, eldest daughter Sian, 32, and twins Ellen and Rachel, 30, at the service.
Mrs Kelly met Lord Hutton before a preliminary sitting of the Hutton Inquiry was held last week. She requested that today’s service should be private.
