Several hurt by 'criminal' Tel Aviv bomb

A car bomb exploded in a Tel Aviv street today, critically injuring one person and lightly wounding several others.

Police said the motive was criminal and that it was not a terrorist attack.

Israeli rescue workers said one person was critically wounded and eight people had been lightly hurt.

“It is not a terrorist attack,” said Tel Aviv police spokeswoman Slomit Holtzberg. “We know the people involved.”

Israeli underworld characters have tried to kill each other in the past. On June 30, a car bomb wounded an alleged gangland figure in Tel Aviv.

Israeli-Palestinian violence has dropped sharply since the main Palestinian militant groups declared a ceasefire on June 29.

The last attack in Israel was on July 7, when a bomber blew himself up inside a house in the centre of the country, killing an elderly woman.
