Six foreigners among Jakarta injured: Report

One news report has quoted police in Jakarta as saying two Americans, two Singaporeans, an Australian and a New Zealander were among those injured in a suicide blast at a luxury hotel.

BBC News Online said there were unconfirmed reports that a Dutch national had died in the explosion. Ten people are reported to have died.

“It is definitely a suicide bombing using a car,” Co-ordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told the Jakarta Post newspaper at the scene.

“Our officers found the car’s engine and chassis registration numbers, as well as its number plate,” said National Police chief Gen Da’i Bachtiar.

“Based on this information we will start our investigation to find the culprits,” he added.

Da’i said the explosion left a crater more than two yards wide in the hotel lobby. He said 22 vehicles were damaged.

One Jakarta police spokesman said the blast shattered windows as high up as the 20th floor of the hotel.
