Senior Philippine Government officials were locked in negotiations with rebel army officers today as a second deadline for them to end a mutiny in downtown Manila passed.

The Government originally gave the mutineers until 5pm (10am Irish time) to give up and quit the apartment and shopping complex they had taken over in the capital’s financial district.
