Health scare raises fears at UK tattoo parlour

Health officials in the UK are offering blood tests to people who had tattoos and body piercings at a tattoo parlour amid fears they could have contracted the HIV virus.

NHS Tayside is contacting people who used the Piercing Point in Mains Road, Dundee, to offer precautionary blood tests for hepatitis B and C and HIV.

The parlour was closed down under health and safety regulations by Dundee City Council last month after investigations found failures in hygiene and cleaning procedures.

NHS Tayside’s Department of Public Health is now contacting 63 customers who used the parlour to offer testing.
