'Liar' Evans loses Virgin radio damages claim

Chris Evans was branded a liar and a prima donna today by a British High Court judge who threw out his multi-million pound damages claim against the radio station where he was once the owner and star.

The former DJ and television presenter now faces a huge legal bill – estimated at several million pounds – and another hearing to decide how much he must pay Virgin Radio for the harm he caused the station.

Mr Justice Lightman, giving his ruling in London, said Evans had breached the terms of his contract, primarily by missing a series of broadcasts after highly-publicised drinking sprees.

Giving his views on Evans’s performance as a witness, the judge was scathing about his personality, describing him as intolerant with the temperament of a prima donna.

The judge said he fully accepted Evans’s statement that he had a terrible memory.

“Beyond this where it suited his purposes, he had to resort to lies.”

The criticism continued: “He was an unimpressive witness more concerned with advocacy and making an impression than answering questions.”
