At least six Islamic militants were killed and 11 captured when Yemeni troops attacked the group’s mountain hide-out, the government said, ending days of negotiations with the guerrillas who were blamed for wounding seven soldiers last weekend.

The military fired artillery and Katyusha rockets at the hide-out of the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army near the village of Hatat, some 280 miles south of the capital San‘a.

An Interior Ministry statement said six militants were killed and 11 captured and that the army seized a quantity of weapons and explosives. It said one army officer was killed and five soldiers wounded, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
