Scotland Yard has apologised for the "wholly unacceptable" breach of security at Windsor Castle on Saturday evening.

Intruder Aaron Barschak gained access to Prince William's 21st birthday party by scaling an embankment, climbing a tree and then duping police into allowing him inside.

Metropolitan Police Service Assistant Commissioner David Veness described the security breach as "appalling".
