US town convulsed by riots

Hundreds of people have rioted for a second night in a Michigan town after the death of a biker who crashed as he was being chased by the police.

Authorities in Benton Harbour said one person was shot, several were stabbed and cars and houses were set on fire. Seven arrests were made.

Terrance Shurn, 28, died early on Monday when he crashed during a high speed chase. A small amount of marijuana was found on his body.

His death sparked hours of unrest on Monday night, during which officers were pelted with bricks and bottles. The protests continued last night.

Governor Jennifer Granholm has approved a state of emergency for the town.
