Police found explosives on a plane waiting to board passengers for a domestic flight at an airport in eastern Italy, an emergency services official said.

The explosives were found on an Alitalia plane that had arrived in the eastern city of Ancona from Rome, and had been scheduled to fly back yesterday.

“There was an anonymous call that the police received. After that, all alarms went off,” a fire department official at Ancona’s Falconara airport said. He had no further details on the type or amount of explosives.

Police found the explosives, removed them and safely destroyed them, the fire official said. No arrests had been made, he added.

Airport police had no comment, and further details were not immediately available.
