Some Liberian families returned to their homes in the capital Monrovia today as peace talks resumed between the government and rebels in neighbouring Ghana.

President Charles Taylor’s defence minister met officials from Liberia’s two rebel groups for the first time face-to-face, and a Ghanaian official said a ceasefire could be signed as early as tomorrow.
