Bombs thrown at US consulate in Turkey

Two bombs were thrown into the garden at the US Consulate in Adana in southern Turkey today, causing minor damage but no injuries.

A 35-year-old man was arrested after the blast, which damaged a wall surrounding the consulate. Officials said he threw the bombs after being confronted by security guards.

One of the devices exploded but the second was later detonated by bomb disposal experts. CNN-Turk television said the explosives were home-made, but another report said they were hand grenades.

Militant left-wing, Islamic and Kurdish groups are active in Turkey and have carried out attacks against US interests in the past.
