Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown is today preparing to set out his government’s reasons for not holding a referendum on the single currency.

Mr Brown was unveiling the Treasury’s assessment of the five economic tests which he set in October 1997 for potential membership of the single currency in a statement to the House of Commons at 3.30pm.
