Jurors in the Edinburgh trial of a woman accused of poisoning a child with salt began considering their verdict today.

Susan Hamilton, 38, from Edinburgh, denies the charge of assault. She is alleged to have deliberately given the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, solutions containing large doses of salt, from which she repeatedly suffered illness and injury, and for which she required medical treatment.
