Nine Chinese construction workers killed in Algeria’s devastating earthquake have been buried in an eastern suburb of Algiers, China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The victims, ranging in age from 26 to 68, died in the collapse of their dormitory in last week’s 6.8 magnitude quake, Xinhua said.

All employees of the Shanghai-based CSCEC firm, they had been resting after supper when the quake hit, it said.

Chinese diplomats and nine other Chinese workers injured in the quake attended the funeral, Xinhua said.

A memorial service was held concurrently in Shanghai for family members and company employees.

Algeria’s quake killed at least 2,218 people and injured 9,497 others, according to Algerian government figures.
