Former President Carlos Menem has quit Argentina’s presidential race, clearing the way for Nestor Kirchner to become the country’s next president.

Former President Carlos Menem has quit Argentina’s presidential race, clearing the way for Nestor Kirchner to become the country’s next president.

The 72-year-old Menem said he was abandoning his underdog battle for a third term in office and would end his campaign for the May 18 runoff with Kirchner.
