The governor of Tasmania state, Sir Guy Green, was today sworn in as the temporary governor general of Australia while the incumbent fights a rape allegation.

Sir Peter Hollingworth announced on Sunday that he would step aside from the largely ceremonial role of the Queen’s representative in Australia to fight a lawsuit alleging he raped a woman in the 1960s. Sir Peter has steadfastly denied the charge.
