Putin 'not ready to back Blair on Iraq'

British Prime Minister Tony Blair today discovered the depth of the continuing international tensions generated by the Iraqi war during discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Following several hours of talks at Mr Putin’s private residence at Novo Ogarevo, 40km west of Moscow, the Russian leader made clear he was not ready to support Mr Blair’s call for the lifting of sanctions against Iraq.
