Japan: Six dead in fireworks factory explosion

Six people were killed today in an explosion at a fireworks factory in southern Japan, police said.

The blast at Nangoku Fireworks in Kagoshima, 620 miles south-west of Tokyo, sparked a fire that raged in three buildings at the site.

Windows were also shattered in the gymnasium and cafeteria of a nearby school, police said.

At least 10 fire engines were sent to the factory to battle the blaze.

At least one other person was seriously injured and three others were missing, police said.
