The fighter was in intensive care at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre, but a spokeswoman declined to describe his injuries.

Kurdish officials say at least 18 people were killed and at least 45 others injured when US aircraft bombed a joint convoy of Kurdish fighters and US special forces in northern Iraq yesterday.

With the convoy was BBC World Affairs Editor John Simpson, who was hit in his leg by shrapnel. His translator was killed.
