Powell insists he is 'in sync' with Bush

Secretary of State Colin Powell today insisted he is “very much in sync” with President George Bush and will stay at his post.

Powell, whose reputation as a moderate distinguishes him from more conservative senior Bush administration officials, says the polls support his performance as secretary of state.

“The American people seem to be quite satisfied with the job I am doing as secretary of state,” Powell said in an interview with US National Public Radio.

Powell also rejected any suggestion the diplomatic approach he championed at the United Nations failed.

In fact, Powell said, unanimous approval last November of a Security Council resolution that the administration has used as its legal basis for war with Iraq was a ”diplomatic triumph.”
