Chirac regrets outbreak of war in Iraq

French President Jacques Chirac today said he regretted the outbreak of US-led military action against Iraq and said he hoped it will not lead to a “humanitarian catastrophe”.

France, along with Russia and Germany had been a vocal opponent of the use of force to disarm Saddam Hussein.
