British police arrest trio near Gatwick airport

Three people have been arrested under anti-terrorism laws, British police have said.

The trio, said to be European nationals, were taken into custody yesterday following an incident in Langley Green, near Gatwick Airport, in Crawley, Sussex.

Sussex Police said that the arrests were made under the Terrorism Act 2000 but released no further details.

A spokeswoman said in a brief statement: "Police continue to deal in conjunction with other agencies."

She was unable to elaborate on the specifics of the incident, where exactly those arrested came from, whether they were male or female or who else was involved in the arrest operation.

A colleague refused to be drawn on whether the operation was connected to the airport although a Gatwick spokeswoman said the area appeared "quiet".
