Union condemns coup in Central African Republic

The African Union has condemned the coup in the Central African Republic.

Rebels led by General Francois Bozize captured the Central Africa Republic's capital, Bangui, over the weekend, and suspended the central African nation's constitution.

In a state radio address on Sunday, Bozize said his fighters seized power because of the mismanagement of the country and its inability to carry out its domestic responsibilities.

Acting chairman of the AU's commission, Amara Essy, says its conflict and resolution body will meet to consider the situation and the measures to be taken.
