Couple threaten to blow up Church of Nativity

An Israeli couple entered the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem today, threatening to blow themselves up, said Father Barnodos, a priest at the church.

The man was holding a rifle and his wife appeared to be wearing an explosives vest, he said.

The couple has apparently made similar threats at the church and were arrested by Palestinian police. Police were negotiating with the couple.

The man is believed to be Jewish, while his wife is believed to be Christian. Police believe they may be agitated over a child care issue.

The Church of the Nativity marks the traditional birthplace of Jesus.
